Understanding Aluminum Scrap for Better Recycling Efficiency
Understanding the aluminium of various scrap types is crucial for maximizing value and efficiency. Clean aluminium scrap, which includes items like aluminium sheets and extrusions, typically boasts a high purity level of around 99% aluminium. Mixed aluminium scrap, which is a combination of different aluminium materials and can include some contaminants, generally contains between 85% to 95% aluminium.
Aluminium beverage cans, commonly recycled, have an aluminium content of about 90% to 95%. Scrap from aluminium castings and extrusions usually ranges from 85% to 95%, depending on the alloy used, while aluminium wheels and radiators often contain between 75% to 90% aluminium due to the presence of other metals or coatings. Proper sorting and processing of these materials are essential, as they directly impact pricing and recycling efficiency.
